SWEET AND SALTY EDAMAME
Years ago, I ordered this dish at Bonefish Grill and couldn't stop raving about it.
It was obviously sprinkled with salt and sugar, but something was different and I couldn’t figure out what... lemon? vanilla?
No. There was something though. So, I asked the waitress and she told me that no, there was nothing but salt and sugar on it. However, the sugar was sugar in the raw.
Aha!
Ingredients
- 1 package frozen edamame in the pod
- 2.5 Tablespoons kosher salt (divided)
- 1 Tablespoon sugar in the raw
Instructions
Put up a pot of water, add two tablespoons of salt and bring to a boil. Add the edamame and cook according to package directions (although I like mine a little less cooked so I shorten the cooking time).
Using a spider, or a large slotted spoon, transfer the edamame to a large mixing bowl. Sprinkle the salt and sugar in the bowl and toss well (do this while it’s still piping hot).
Transfer to the serving bowl.
Notes
It’s such a satisfying delicious snack. You can certainly adjust the seasonings if you'd like it more or less salty or sweet.
In case your not familiar with this snack, here’s what you do:
Hold the pod with the seams on the top and bottom.
Hold between your teeth and gently bite down to pop the pod.
Scrape your teeth along the pod so that the beans pop into your mouth and discard the pod. You get all the flavor from the pod, but only eat the tender bean inside. What a great treat!
